Castaway Pva, Pike and Predator
Sardines and herrings are right up there as the most used baits for pike, and the reason for this is that the pike love them. A great oily fish that sends scent trials galore out and gives the predators something to home in on and find a tasty bait.
As with most good things there is a down side and that is that the fish is very soft and distance casting is virtually impossible. No end of times I have cast out and seen my rig go flying one way and the fish go splash miles away from where I wanted it to be. To overcome this I have seen people try a whole host of tricks from tying the fish to the trace using elastic bands or even mono line, neither of these methods can be good for the Pike if it managed to swallow them.
Recently with the introduction of pva tape people have started to tie the fish to the trace using the tape, but this too can have its issues cold hands tying knots do not go very well together as doesn’t a wet fish and thin pva tape.
All this changed for me when I got a call asking if I would try out some new pva cable ties from a company called Castaway Pva. Initially they wanted a review to showcase their products for carp anglers dropping leads etc buy I saw a better use of the ties and one that pike anglers have been waiting for. The product sold itself to me immediately a quick and simple way to fix the fish to the trace and safe in the knowledge that within minutes of the bait hitting the lake bed the tie has dissolved leaving a perfectly presented dead bait.If the bait is of a larger size then it is easy to connect the ties together and make any size cable tie that you need.
These are available in packs or 10, 50 and 100 and work out at less than 20p each. Check out the website www.castaway-pva.co.uk and give these a try, I promise you these cable ties will change your approach to pike fishing.
